Each year, the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) surveys their members to find out what the top trends include when it comes down to types of materials and design styles in the kitchen and bath. With 2017 coming to an end, these were the top trends that were predicted. Whether or not they stay the same for next year, we can’t say. Top Kitchen & Bathroom Trends

The styles that are the most popular and most requested are transitional styles, followed by contemporary and then traditional.

White and gray cabinets are the top choices for the kitchen

Quartz is the most popular kitchen countertop choice. Granite takes second place.

For overall color schemes in the kitchen, blue and black colors are gaining momentum.

Blue painted and high gloss cabinets have gained popularity.

Wood cabinets are the most popular choice. However, metal cabinets are gaining in popularity – these are usually preferred by younger and male designers.

Two-toned kitchens are popular. Mixing materials is also on trend.

Interior barn doors and pocket doors in kitchens are a current trend.


Shaker style cabinets on traditional and mid-century modern is showing up.

Whites, off-whites, and grays are the most popular bathroom color schemes. Blue is starting to make an appearance. Violets and purples are also being used by young design professionals.

The most commonly used bathroom storage solutions include linen storage cabinets and wood vanities. Floating vanities and open shelving are increasing in popularity.

Homeowners are going for more of an upgraded shower system instead of having freestanding tubs or whirlpool tubs.

Brass is also making a comeback. Chrome and satin are still the most popular choices, but brass is gaining in popularity.

Plain white subway tile is on its way out. Texture, color, pattern, and a unique design is reigning supreme.
