Steps For Planning A Kitchen Remodel Part 2

Last week, the best countertop company at the Lake of the Ozarks started a list of helpful tips to help you prepare for a kitchen remodel. Kitchen remodels can be overwhelming and stressful and we want to help reduce any stress we can. This week we are rounding out our list of tips that you should keep in mind when you are beginning to start the process of a kitchen remodel. Check them out and if you’re searching for the perfect countertops, Metro Marble & Granite can help!

The Design

After you find the professionals you will need to work with, it’s time to move onto the design of the kitchen. This will include things like space planning, sketches, floor plans, and elevations that will show the layout and even the cabinet sizes. It’s important to focus on the layout and the space planning of the kitchen, instead of getting caught up in the details of how the kitchen will look. Getting caught up in the “looks” of the kitchen can distract from the actual layout of the space. It’s important to have a solid plan so you can figure out what materials you need and how much you will need. This will also help in creating your budget and will allow you to see the cost.

Choosing The Details

You’ve more than likely saved photos of kitchens that you love and want to use as inspiration. You’ve hopefully decided what your kitchen style is and you know what kind of kitchen design you want. You’ve already decided whether you’re going for a modern look or a more traditional style, and if you’re wanting an all-white kitchen or you want to introduce color. Once all of that is decided, it’s time to choose the finishes and fixtures. This includes things like:
  • Color/style of countertop
  • Countertop material
  • Backsplash design and material
  • Type of cabinetry
  • Color of cabinetry
  • Kitchen appliances
  • Kitchen sink and faucet
  • Flooring
  • Light fixtures
  • Decorative hardware

Final Plans

Once all of the finishes and fixtures have been chosen, now is the time to finalize the design and prepare the final floorplans and details. You’ll want to submit drawings for any permits that are needed. If you don’t have a licensed contractor now is a great time to find one. You should get a few different estimates from different contractors before choosing one to work with.

Get Ready For Demo

Preparing your kitchen for demo day and the whole remodel is an important step. Make sure that your cabinets are cleaned out, you put things in storage, and you set up a temporary kitchen if you are going to be staying in your home during the remodel. Organization and preparation will be key if you plan on staying in your home.

You should also have open communication with your contractor and determine how often you will meet and if you will need to be out of the house for any tasks. Set up some sort of schedule so you can be prepared and you know what to expect during the process.

Enjoy Your New Kitchen

Once the process is over and everything has been completed, now is the time to enjoy your new kitchen and all of the hard work you put into it. Kitchen remodels can be overwhelming and stressful, but if you are organized and know what to expect, it will go a lot smoother.
