Delicious Memorial Day Desserts

Somehow it seems that the month of May is flying by. Believe it or not, next weekend is Memorial Day Weekend. The Lake of the Ozarks will be busy with people coming down for the long weekend. Whether you plan to spend your weekend out on the Lake or spending time with family and friends at home, there is one thing we can be sure of. There will be lots of delicious food served. Metro Marble & Granite has some great Memorial Day Weekend recipes from Delish.com that we wanted to share with you. After all, you will be making these delicious desserts in your kitchen. Memorial Day Weekend Desserts

Banana Split Kabobs
There’s nothing that says summertime quite like a banana split. These fun and healthy desserts are sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Ingredients:
2 bananas – cut into 1 inch pieces
24 1 inch pieces of pineapple
12 large strawberries – rinsed, dried, and halved
2 cups chocolate chips
½ cups chopped peanuts

Directions:
(1) Make kebabs: thread two pieces of each: banana, pineapple, and strawberry onto the skewer. Repeat the process to assemble all 24 skewers. Place skewers on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
(2) In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until completely smooth.
(3) Drizzle the melted chocolate over the fruit kebabs and then sprinkle the peanuts on top. Freeze until you are ready to serve.

Patriotic Parfait
These desserts are easy to prepare ahead of time and they make delicious party-ready treats.

Ingredients:
¼ cup of sugar
¼ cup of water
1 cup of blueberries
1 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
1 cup heavy cream
10 ounces angel food cake
2 cups of strawberries
½ cup shredded coconut
8 mason jars

Directions:
(1) In 1-quart saucepan, stir together sugar and water. Heat to boiling on high, stirring occasionally; stir in blueberries and lemon juice. Remove from heat. Let cool completely.
(2) In a large bowl, with a mixer on medium speed, whip cream until soft peaks form. Gently fold in cooled blueberry mixture.
(3) Place a single layer of angel food cake on the bottom of 1 jar. Top with 2 tablespoons of strawberries, then 2 tablespoons blueberries and whipped cream. Repeat layering of cake, strawberries, and whipped cream. Repeat with the remaining 7 jars. Serve immediately or put the lid on and refrigerate for up to 1 day.


Freedom Bark
This is red, white, and blue bark tastes like freedom. Easy to eat and loved by kids and adults.

Ingredients:
1 cup of white chocolate
1 cup blue candy melts – melted
1 cup red candy melts – melted
1/3 cup red, white, and blue sprinkles
2 tbsp. edible gold stars
2 tbsp. blue edible glitter

Directions:
(1) On a baking sheet, add spoonfuls of melted white, blue and red candy melts, adding twice as many white spoonfuls than red and blue.
(2) Using an offset spatula or knife, swirl colors together – creating a tie-dye effect.
(3) Top with sprinkles and edible gold stars and glitter.
(4) Freeze for 20 minutes.
(5) Break into pieces and serve.
