Maintaining Your Outdoor Kitchen in the Summertime

Now that summer is just about in full swing, your outdoor kitchen will be used a lot more often, if not regularly! With all the traffic going in and out and around your beautiful outdoor kitchen at the Lake of the Ozarks, it’s important to keep up with the maintenance to preserve your haven for years to come. Metro Marble & Granite provides gorgeous granite, quartz, and solid surface countertops not just for your indoor kitchen, but your outdoor one too! Read on for some tips from the best countertop company in Lake Ozark about how to clean and maintain your outdoor kitchen throughout these hot summer months.

Tip #1: Clean your grill regularly. Some people prefer to wait until their grill cools before attempting to clean them, but it’s actually most effective to clean it while it is warm. Be sure to wipe down the outside of the grill as well.

Tip #2: Wipe down any exposed surfaces, especially your sink. You will want to clean your outdoor surfaces both before and after you prepare food. This gives you the chance to remove any dust, dirt, or pollen that has collected on the surfaces over the day or night.
One of the best things about your outdoor kitchen is... No floor! To clean the ground of your space, simply hose it off. If you decide to power wash, be cautious around appliances and surfaces that could easily be damaged.

Tip #3: Clean your countertops regularly. If you have a spill, whether it be wine or ketchup, you’ll want to clean it up immediately. Your Metro Marble countertops are porous, so it is a possibility that the spill could soak in and stain. During the summer, your granite or marble countertop will be mostly protected from stains due to the exposure to the sun and rain, but it’s always a good idea to do a water test to see if you need to get them resealed. To perform the test, pour a small amount of water on your surface. If after a few minutes the water has stayed beaded together, your countertop is good to go. If the water has begun to soak in, it may be time to get your countertop resealed for the summer.

Tip #4: Regularly disinfect your outdoor furniture. Your outdoor kitchen more than likely includes a dining set or at least a table and a few chairs. Since this is where you eat, it’s a good idea to disinfect the tabletop before and after you eat as well. To keep your furniture clean and beautiful, we recommend wiping each piece down at least once a day to eliminate any dirt buildup or outdoor residue. If you have vinyl or mesh furniture, it's easy to hose it down while you are washing off the ground.

Tip #5: Be sure to water your outdoor plants. Especially in these busy, hot summer months, it can be easy to forget about our plant friends. Though we do get the occasional rain shower here in mid-Missouri, your plants need extra loving in the heat of the summer. Ferns, vines, and potted flowers can liven up your space and make great additions to your outdoor kitchen.

Our number one tip for your outdoor kitchen is to utilize your investment! Don’t be too scared to messy up your new haven. Though your outdoor kitchen may require a few different maintenance tasks than your indoor kitchen, it will all be worth it in the end when you’re enjoying your dinner beneath the setting sun. Thinking of remodeling or designing an outdoor kitchen at the Lake of the Ozarks? Give Metro Marble & Granite a call and let us help you choose the perfect countertop for your needs.
